Where to stay in Tbilisi
Sololaki, Vera, Vake, Saburtalo: what each one is actually like once the guidebook stops talking.
Old Tbilisi is beautiful, lively and busy. If you are visiting for a few days and want to explore the city's main sights on foot, it is a good choice. If you are staying for several weeks or planning to live in Tbilisi, a quieter neighbourhood may be more comfortable.
Vera and Sololaki offer a good balance of central location and neighbourhood character. Cafés, restaurants, small shops and old houses are part of everyday life here, and many places are within walking distance. Vake is quieter and greener. It feels less central, but you have wider streets, Vake Park and plenty of places for everyday needs.
Saburtalo offers a different experience. It is less touristy, but that can make it a more practical choice for those staying in Tbilisi for several weeks or longer.
Ultimately, the right neighbourhood depends on the kind of setting you prefer: the atmosphere of Old Tbilisi and proximity to the city centre, a quieter and greener environment, or easy transport and everyday convenience.
